The Psalmist is inviting you to pursue wisdom like you would "silver" or "a hidden treasure".
He begins with the invitation and concludes with the warning.
Invitation to Pursue Wisdom:
- If you will receive these sayings then you will discern the fear of the Lord and discover the knowledge of God.
- Treasure his commandments.
- The invitation is to discover wisdom. And the treasure map points you to the where to find the treasure; namely the Lord. And from his mouth comes come knowledge and understanding.
- He stores up sound wisdom.
- He is a shield to those who walk in integrity.
- He guards the paths of justice.
- He preserves the way of his people.
- He delivers you from the way of evil.
- He delivers you from the man who speaks perverse things.
Warnings to Those Who "Delight in Doing Evil":
The one who turns from God to the "Adulteress" is in great danger. Her speech lures, her appearance is appealing, she is bent on drawing you in and then leaving you, ruined, for another
- None who go to her return form her.
- Her tracks lead to the dead.
- Her tracks do not lead to life.
- The wicked, those who follow her, will be cut off from the land.
- They will be uprooted from the land.
Pray for endurance to pursue and to not give up seeking this treasure of His commandments. Pray that you will not become distracted by the 'adulteress' for a temporary pleasure of the flesh that does not require endurance and is over within a flash leaving you for waste and ruin.
