Proverbs Chapter 3 (Time: 3:11)

The reminder to the reader is persistent throughout Proverbs. Watch this as your read and listen to this instruction. It is right to think that this father has told these things to his son often by this kind of language.

Doing this in Christ will heal and strengthen your whole being:

  • Trust in the Lord.
  • Do not rely on your understanding.
  • Think about the Lord.
  • Don't consider yourself independently wise (apart from God.)
  • Honor the Lord with your possessions
  • Do not despise the Lord's instruction
  • Do not loath his discipline.
Treat everyone fairly:
  • When you have the ability to help others don't withhold the help.
  • Don't plan harm for others.
  • Don't accuse others of things on hear-say.
  • Don't long for the wealth and ease of life of evil people.
    • the devious are detestable to the Lord, the very one you are pursuing as a treasure.
Pray for a breaking of your outer man. Pray that you will yield to the Spirit and live with joy in his instructions.

Proverbs Chapter 2 (Time: 2:06)

The Psalmist is inviting you to pursue wisdom like you would "silver" or "a hidden treasure".

He begins with the invitation and concludes with the warning.

Invitation to Pursue Wisdom:
  • If you will receive these sayings then you will discern the fear of the Lord and discover the knowledge of God.
  • Treasure his commandments.
  • The invitation is to discover wisdom. And the treasure map points you to the where to find the treasure; namely the Lord. And from his mouth comes come knowledge and understanding.
  • He stores up sound wisdom.
  • He is a shield to those who walk in integrity.
  • He guards the paths of justice.
  • He preserves the way of his people.
  • He delivers you from the way of evil.
  • He delivers you from the man who speaks perverse things.
Warnings to Those Who "Delight in Doing Evil":
The one who turns from God to the "Adulteress" is in great danger. Her speech lures, her appearance is appealing, she is bent on drawing you in and then leaving you, ruined, for another
  • None who go to her return form her.
  • Her tracks lead to the dead.
  • Her tracks do not lead to life.
  • The wicked, those who follow her, will be cut off from the land.
  • They will be uprooted from the land.
Pray for endurance to pursue and to not give up seeking this treasure of His commandments. Pray that you will not become distracted by the 'adulteress' for a temporary pleasure of the flesh that does not require endurance and is over within a flash leaving you for waste and ruin.

Proverbs Chapter 1 (time: 3:32)

The introduction of this proverb describes the usefulness of these Proverbs.
  • to know wisdom and instruction.
  • to discern the sayings of understanding.
  • to receive instruction about wise behavior, righteousness, justice and equity.
  • to give prudence to the naive
  • to give knowledge and discretion to the young.
The wise will hear and increase in learning and the one who understands will acquire wise counsel.

Instruction begins for the children at verse 8 but is good counsel for the middle and old as well. This section from verse 8 on will help prepare us to stand against the temptations from immoral people and avoid the demise of their ways.

Pray for wisdom, instruction and discernment. Pray for understanding in wise behavior, righteousness, justice and equity. Pray for boldness to stand against the enemy.
